How to make groups with the random group generator

  1. 1

Choose a saved class list, or type or paste your roster once.

  2. 2

Tap any student who is absent so they are left out.

  3. 3

Choose how many groups you want, or how many students per group, from 2 to 12.

  4. 4

Make the groups. Not quite right? Reshuffle with one click.

What it does

  • Even group sizes

Students are shared out so groups stay as even as possible, even when the numbers do not divide neatly.

  • Keep-apart pairs

Add pairs of students who should never end up in the same group. Every reshuffle respects them.

  • Absent students skipped

Mark a student absent with one tap and the groups are made from the students who are actually in the room.

  • Fun group names

Each group gets a fun name, which is easier to call out than "group four".

Ways teachers use it

Group projects

Make groups of four for a project and put them on the board, so everyone can find their group without a fuss.

Lab and talk partners

Set 2 students per group for science partners or think-pair-share, and reshuffle each week.

PE teams

Split the class into even teams for a game, then reshuffle for the next round.
